The best fence is only as strong as its weakest part. Whether you’re installing chain link, wire, or other types of fencing that require metal components, that part is often a connector like a band, a rail end connector, or some other fitting that joins mesh and wire to the posts. For any fence to remain standing it must first be designed correctly, and then installed using the highest quality parts – especially the fittings. Skimping on these parts can mean a premature failure of the whole fence.

Correctly installed, a chain link or wire fence consists of the mesh or strand wire supported by metal or wood posts, some or all of which are set in cement for sturdiness. While each metal pole of a chain link installation is set in cement, sometimes only corner posts that bear most of the tension of a wire fence are set in cement. In either case, the secure poles and posts, along with the wire mesh and strand wire, are all durable – the point of failure, many times, is a poorly chosen fitting.

Fittings for chain link and other fences must bear the load of not just the wire mesh itself, but also withstand impacts and other factors that threaten the integrity of the fencing installation. Cheap, thin, poorly made fittings, those made using inferior processes, or not protected by galvanization won’t stand up to the abuse that mesh and wire fences must sometimes endure. Cheap bolts and bands stretch, bend, and break, causing the panel parts of the installation to sag or fall completely.

The best way to avoid all of this, of course, is to invest in the highest quality fence fittings. Whether you are installing your own chain link or wire fence or hiring a contractor to do it, or even if you are that contractor doing installations for others, insist on the highest quality fence fittings to protect those installations.
